Lawn Aeration Case Study Norfolk

The Client – Homeowners Thetford, Norfolk

The owners of this 1.5-acre property near Thetford in Norfolk were having problems with waterlogging of their lawn during heavy rainfall. Aeration Jet was called out to diagnose the issue after being referred by a previous customer in the same area.

Lawn Aeration was Required to Relieve Soil Compaction

using a penetrometer to test the level of soil compaction

The first step before we bring the Aeration Jet machine is to test the level of soil compaction using a penetrometer; see the image below. We use this device in locations where the water is pooling, heavy foot traffic, and in tractor route areas. Once this is completed, we understand if the soil can be aerated using our state-of-the-art Aeration Machine. The job was booked in when it was confirmed that there were multiple instances of soil compaction.

Why Lawn Aeration is Important

Lawn aeration is a crucial practice for maintaining healthy and vibrant lawns. This process involves perforating the soil with small holes to alleviate compaction, allowing air, water, and nutrients to penetrate the root zone more effectively. Compacted soil restricts root growth and can lead to poor grass health, making aeration essential for promoting stronger roots and enhancing overall lawn resilience. Additionally, aeration helps break down thatch, a layer of dead organic material that can hinder water and nutrient absorption. Lawn aeration improves the soil structure and facilitates better airflow, ultimately contributing to a lush, green lawn that withstands environmental stresses such as drought and heavy foot traffic.

Top 5 reasons For Aerating your Lawn

  1. Reduces Soil Compaction: Aeration alleviates soil compaction, allowing air, water, and nutrients to penetrate deeper into the soil, which is essential for healthy grass growth
  2. Improves Water Infiltration: By creating holes in the lawn, aeration facilitates better water absorption and retention, reducing runoff and ensuring that moisture reaches the root zone more effectively
  3. Enhances Nutrient Absorption: Aerated lawns allow fertilizers and nutrients to reach the grassroots more efficiently, promoting a healthier and more vibrant lawn
  4. Stimulates Root Growth: The process encourages grass roots to grow deeper and stronger, which helps create a more resilient lawn that can withstand stress from heat and drought
  5. Reduces Thatch Buildup: Aeration helps break down thatch, the layer of dead grass and debris that can suffocate your lawn, thereby promoting better overall health and growth of the grass

Aeration Jet is Ideal for Lawn Aeration and Soil Compaction

For this client, we operated our ground aerator machines over the garden areas with the highest level of soil compaction, as seen using the penetrometer. We also covered some areas of the garden that did not have water logging to improve soil health through aeration.

Once the work was completed, we took readings on the penetrometer to show that the soil compaction had been dramatically reduced.

Another Happy Aeration Jet Client

There was heavy rainfall a few days after the work was done, but the client happily reported that the usually waterlogged areas had dissipated.

The client was pleased with the work and kindly gave us a 5-star Google review.
